Frequently asked questions

Meals on Wheels questions, general information and eligibility rules.

You must be at least 60 years old, homebound, and unable to prepare your own meals.

Call 321-639-8770. You will be asked some basic questions, including medical conditions and emergency contacts. You will then be contacted for an in-home visit to conduct an assessment.

It depends on the length of the waiting list, funding, and availability of volunteer drivers. The wait could be longer in some parts of the county where demand is greatest.

There is no fee charged for Meals on Wheels, and there is no income eligibility scale. However, donations are encouraged to cover the cost of meals, and people with low incomes are given priority.

There is a private pay option that could get you started sooner as long as there is room on the route in your area.

  • Email volunteer@agingmattersbrevard.org and the coordinator from your area will contact you. You will be assigned to the area closest to you – North Brevard, Central Brevard (including Merritt Island), South Brevard (Melbourne, Viera and beaches), Palm Bay and Micco.
  • Drivers must have their own vehicle and insurance and pass a Level I background check.
  • Orientation and training will be provided before being given a route. Most volunteers drive one day per week.

We cannot deliver your meal anywhere other than your home. You or your caregiver must be present to receive the meal from our driver. If you must cancel a meal, you should call the office (321-639-8770, option 1) no later than 8 A.M. the day you wish to cancel.

The menu is available online or you may contact the office to request a menu be delivered with your next meal by calling 321-639-8770, option 1.

Pets on Wheels

You must be a Meals on Wheels client to receive pet food through Pets on Wheels.

Yes! All food distributed is donated. Collection sites are at the Brevard Humane Society facilities: Shelter at 1020 Cox Road in Cocoa, and Molly Mutt thrift shops in Rockledge, Melbourne, and Palm Bay. Please no large bags over 10 pounds as they are difficult for our seniors to lift.
