The Sunflower House is a Senior and Caregiver Resource Center; it is located inside the Merritt Square Mall. The Caregiver Support Program, which is housed at the Sunflower House, offers in-home or in-facility respite services, consumable supplies, education, support, training, outreach, and referrals for family caregivers responsible for caring for a loved one age 60 and over.

Each month the Sunflower House offers programming which includes twice weekly chair exercise classes (developed by the Arthritis Foundation), weekly movies, caregiver support groups, a bereavement support group, brief memory screenings, and classes and presentations for caregivers who are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. The Sunflower House also runs a medical equipment bank with donated wheelchairs, walkers, canes, shower chairs, and bedside commodes.

In 2012, the Sunflower House expanded services for caregivers by adding two new components – the GrandParenting Again and the Caregiver Life Transitions programs.

The GRANDParenting Again program is designed for grandparents 55 or older who have given up their retirement or their own plans in order to take on everything that comes along with raising children 18 and younger. The program includes support groups, care management, referrals to available community resources, educational presentations, and counseling.

The Caregiver Life Transitions program is specifically for individuals who have been caregivers and are now transitioning to life beyond the caregiver years. The support group offers a place to socialize, make new friends, and become an active member of a larger community. Caregiver Life Transitions also offers counseling, social activities, and classes on self-esteem building, stress reduction, and financial and health issues. As part of this program, the Sunflower House coordinates day trips and hosts potluck meals and clubs.

Please contact the Sunflower House at (321) 452-4341 for more details about these programs.

Services are at no cost to eligible seniors, however we depend upon your donations to help off-set the cost of running these services.
