SUMMARY:Free Medicare Counseling
DESCRIPTION:SHINE is an award-winning\, statewide volunteer program that provides free\, unbiased counseling and information for people on Medicare\, their families\, and caregivers. SHINE is a program of the Florida Department of Elder Affaires and is administered in Brevard County by the Senior Resource Alliance located in Orlando. \nCounseling will be available on Medicare\, Medigap (Supplemental Insurance)\, HMOs\, Medicaid\, Prescription Drug Plans\, and Long-Term Care Insurance. SUMMARY:Vascular Health Seminar
DESCRIPTION:“Vascular Health Seminar” \nGuest speaker\, Chris Meyer\, MD\, will conduct a seminar on “Vascular Health.” Dr. Meyer is a vascular surgeon who specializes in leg circulation problems exclusively. He graduated from Notre Dame University Summa Cum Laude and has been helping patients in Central Florida for over a decade. Dr. Meyer is an associate at Florida Vein Care Specialists and has offices in both Melbourne and Merritt Island. \nAs we get older most people tend to have some level of venous insufficiency that manifests itself in chronically swollen legs\, varicose veins\, and leg pain- sometimes even venous ulcers. Patients now wearing compression stockings and taking water pills may have better options. \nThis seminar will cover vascular health and how it applies to seniors. We will discuss causes of leg swelling\, varicose veins\, and leg pain. We’ll demonstrate new technology and therapies that are available to prevent and correct these leg problems. We’ll also have sonography available for on the spot vascular imaging. It’s a great chance for people to get a free vascular checkup. \nLunch will provided. SUMMARY:Bone Builders Volunteer Instructors Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Bone Builders is a light weight training and exercise program designed to increase bone density and to help prevent osteoporosis. \nThis workshop will train volunteers to be exercise instructors. Volunteer Instructors have a two (2) class per week commitment. Subs fill in as needed. All instructors must be a senior\, 55 & up.
