Established in 1965, Aging Matters in Brevard is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and maintain independence and maximize quality of life for the citizens of Brevard County, particularly the elderly and disabled. One of our primary programs, The Brevard Community Kitchen, serves over 2,000 meals a day to the frailest of our citizen’s including both elders and at-risk children.

Proceeds from this event will help provide care for over 9,000 seniors so they can receive the finest in comprehensive and coordinated services preserving the very culture that we value so much – a safe and healthy community.

Last year event proceeds impacted seniors in the following meaningful ways:

• Provided 222,677 hot nutritious meals to 1,633 homebound seniors through Meals on Wheels
• Improved home accessibility, safety and security for 1,574 seniors
• Senior TranServe volunteers traveled over 49,588 miles transporting 197 non-driving seniors
• RSVP volunteers provided 71,913 hours of service at community agencies
• Home and Community Based Services provided 785 seniors and 68 caregivers with in-home services including homemakers, personal care, respite, housekeeping and alarm systems

Aging Matters in Brevard is recognized by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the Area Agency on Aging as the Lead Agency for senior services in Brevard County. Aging Matters in Brevard services are funded by federal, state, and local grants (Eligibility requirements may apply). Private pay services are also available. Aging Matters in Brevard offers a wide variety of services to enable seniors to live safely and independently in their own homes.

Cocoa, FL – Mayors in Brevard County will partner with Aging Matters in Brevard and the local Meals on Wheels program to call attention to senior hunger in our community.  “Mayors for Meals” is a national initiative designed to raise public awareness and recruit new volunteers.   Mayors representing cities throughout Brevard County and across the nation will deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors who participate in the Meals on Wheels program.

The event will take place March 20 beginning at 10:30 AM.  Mayors and elected/appointed officials who deliver meals make the point that no senior should go hungry® in this, the richest nation on earth.  The significance of this event cannot be underestimated.

“Mayors for Meals” has made a major impact on the lives of Brevard seniors.  Media attention both locally and nationwide has promoted public awareness concerning senior hunger and has highlighted the need to support local Meals on Wheels programs.

During the past year, Meals on Wheels delivered 222,677 meals to 1,633 homebound seniors.  A corps of 721 volunteers donated 49,588 hours of service and traveled 425,897 miles.

Kammerdener comes with a wealth of experience within the food services industry, having spent the past 19 years at Health First Corporation where he was instrumental in providing food services for Holmes Regional Medical Center, including inpatient, cafeteria, employee day care and catering.

Kammerdener joins Aging Matters in Brevard as the director of the Brevard Community Kitchen to continue Aging Matters success providing hot nutritious meals for Meals on Wheels, Seniors at Lunch, adult and child day care centers, charter schools and the parks and recreation summer lunch program.”

‘Program feeds homebound and disabled seniors, the USA’s ‘hidden hungry.’

MELBOURNE, Fla. – While delivering food here every week, Meals On Wheels volunteer Charles Kuhn says he helps serve as “the eyes and ears” of eight struggling households in two mobile home parks.

(Holiday Inn, 520 & I-95), 301 Tucker Lane, Cocoa, FL 32926.

Guests will sample distinctive wines by Florida Wine & Spirits and Tempting Tastes by the Brevard Community Kitchen.

A live auction by the American Fundraising Auctions will highlight the evening with, jewelry, artwork and trips all over the world.

This evening of music, delicious food and wine, auction and balloon pops is fun for all and the perfect way to raise funds for Brevard’s aging community.

Proceeds from the event support the Meals on Wheels Program, Seniors at Lunch, In-home personal care, the Sunflower House, Caregiver Support and Respite Care, Transportation, and volunteer recruitment; all services that help seniors remain living in their own homes, thus avoiding long-term care placement.
