Family Preparation & Survivor Assistance Workshop

Guest speakers Edward L. Caron Jr, Russell K. Pells, Donald Bullen (all DAV certified service officers), will present this informative workshop about family preparation and survivor assistance for Veterans and their spouse, care givers of veterans or their spouse. The workshop will include a free guide covering important topics like:

— Benefits for Veterans and their spouses

— Burial options and payment for funeral

— DIC (dependent indemnity compensation) for spouse if Veteran dies from a service connected disability, or if it is a contributing factor

— Social Security benefits

— Family planning worksheet for both the Veteran and their spouse helping to organize their estate

— How to save on probate costs

— Information for the survivor to request additional benefits

— Helpful forms for numerous benefits:  VA form for a Durable power of attorney for medical care, living will

— Information on aid and attendance and home bound benefits

Speaker Biographies’

Mr. Caron received a Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School, and is licensed to practice law in Maine and Massachusetts, Federal Court System including the U.S Supreme Court, U.S. Court Of Military Appeals, and U.S. Court of Appeals For Veterans Claims.

Mr. Pells graduated from the United States Military Academy and also received an MBA degree from the Indiana University Kelly School of Business. He served in the U.S. Army for 23 years specializing in tactical and Strategic communications, but also had assignments in Jet Engine Procurement and Foreign Language training. Upon retirement from the U.S. Army,  he works for EDS Corporation and other commercial companies designing and constructing fiber optic networks and facilities plus designing software solutions.

Mr. Bullen served a successful 25-year Military career in the army. He managed the logistics of a variety of army combat organizations. After retirement as a Chief Warrant Officer grade W4, he was employed as a  Senior Engineer Manager by IBM Federal Systems and managed the development of logistics systems for Navy submarine combat systems and Army combat system training simulators. He earned an Associate Degree in Industrial Supervision and Management from Macomb College in Warren MI.
